About Butler Cheerleading
About Our Program and Frequently Asked Questions:
We look for well-rounded athletes to represent the Butler Area School District at athletic events, within the community, and competitively. We have three-four game squad teams and two competition teams. Athletes must cheer for a game squad team in order to be on a competition team.

Program Requirements:
-
TRYOUTS: In order to try out for our program, you must live within the Butler Area School District boundaries and be going into 7-12 grade the upcoming school year. If you were a member of the team in the previous season, you must not have any outstanding obligations (financial or equipment) owed to the Butler High School Cheer Parent Association or Butler Athletic Department.
-
AMBASSADORS: Your #1 job as a Butler Cheerleader is to represent the school is a positive, respectful manner. This includes, but is not limited to, how you act at school, practices, games, competitions, within the community, and on social media.
-
GAME DAY: Butler Cheerleaders attend many athletic events throughout the season so fundamental cheer skills are incredibly important! This means voice, smile, proper motion placement and sharpness. This can be a deciding factor during tryouts.
-
TUMBLING: Tumbling can help set you apart at tryouts. It is not required but is preferred, especially for athletes intending to try out for our competition teams.
-
STUNTING: Stunting is only evaluated as a part of our competition team tryouts unless you are a male. Male athletes will be asked to perform a coed stunt and full group stunt during game squad tryouts. We are looking for potential and willingness to learn from our male athletes!
Our History:
Butler Cheerleading has a longstanding history of excellence. Our program was established in 1915 when the President assigned two male cheerleaders to lead the crowd at basketball games. They were provided uniforms and given the opportunity to be on the basketball court during timeouts, quarters, and other game breaks for the first time. The program only continued to grow as more teams were added and we began competing.
